Storm Damage Repair & Restoration on the Oregon Coast
Carter’s Contracting repairs the damage this coast does to homes: storm and wind damage, dry rot, water intrusion, and failing siding and decks. Owner Tyler Carter runs a four-person crew based in South Beach, working from Pacific City to Waldport, and we answer emergency calls.
What we repair on the central Oregon coast
Salt air, wind-driven rain, and winter storms take homes apart faster here than anywhere inland. This is the repair work we do week in and week out, from Pacific City down to Waldport.
Storm & wind damage repair
Roof, siding, fence, and deck damage from coastal storms, repaired properly rather than patched. We tarp and secure first when it’s urgent, then scope the permanent repair.
Dry rot repair
Cutting out rotted framing, sills, rim joists, and trim, tracing the moisture source that caused it, and rebuilding with materials chosen for the exposure so the rot doesn’t come back.
Water damage & leak repair
Finding and fixing the intrusion point — flashing, window and door penetrations, failed envelope details — then repairing the framing, insulation, and finishes behind it.
Siding & exterior repair
Section repairs and full-wall replacement of failed siding, trim, and decks, matched to the existing home where possible and upgraded to salt-rated materials where it isn’t.
Structural repair
Sistering and replacing compromised framing, beams, and posts uncovered during rot and water repairs, with engineering brought in when the damage calls for it.
Insurance restoration
Documented scopes, photos, and line-item estimates your adjuster can work with, and repairs built to the approved scope. You deal with one crew from documentation to final walkthrough.
From damage to done, in four steps
Repair work goes wrong when nobody traces the cause. Ours starts there.
Inspect and document
Photos, moisture readings where they matter, and a written scope of what failed and why.
Free line-item estimate
An itemized estimate for the full repair — the same document works for your insurance adjuster if a claim is involved.
Repair the cause before the symptom
The flashing before the drywall, the moisture source before the new trim, so the same failure doesn’t come back.
Walk the finished work with you
A final walkthrough together, backed by our workmanship warranty of up to 10 years depending on the trade.
Most repair and restoration projects we take on start around $10,000 — typically dry rot and water damage that has reached framing, storm damage across multiple assemblies, or exterior failures involving siding and structure together. For a single loose board or a small handyman-scale fix, we’re usually not the right fit, and we’ll tell you so on the phone rather than waste your time.
Beyond repairs
Repair projects often uncover the next conversation — a kitchen that’s due, a deck worth replacing instead of patching, or the rebuild you’ve been putting off. Here’s the rest of our work on this coast.
A repair contractor built for this coast, not against it
Most repair failures on the Oregon coast are repeat failures: the same trim rots again, the same wall leaks again, because the repair copied the detail that failed. The central coast’s salt air corrodes standard fasteners, wind-driven rain finds every unsealed penetration, and inland material choices simply don’t last here. As a storm damage repair contractor working the central Oregon coast every week, we repair with stainless and hot-dipped hardware, salt-rated siding and trim, and flashing details built for horizontal rain — and we get called back when a repair doesn’t hold, so we build them to hold.

Storm damage and repair questions, answered
Do you answer emergency storm damage calls?
Yes. Call (541) 819-4366 and we answer emergency calls. For urgent storm or water damage we secure the home first — tarping, board-up, stopping active water intrusion — then scope the permanent repair once the immediate risk is handled.
How much does dry rot repair cost on the Oregon coast?
It depends entirely on how far the rot has traveled. Most dry rot repair projects we take on start around $10,000, because by the time rot is visible on the surface it has usually reached the framing behind it. The estimate is free, it is itemized, and we scope the moisture source that caused the rot — not just the visible damage — so you are pricing the fix that lasts.
How do I know if my home has dry rot?
Common signs on coastal homes: soft or spongy wood at trim, sills, and deck posts; paint that bubbles or flakes in the same spot repeatedly; dark staining below windows and at siding joints; and a musty smell in exterior walls. If a screwdriver sinks into the wood with light pressure, it is past cosmetic. We can confirm it during a free estimate visit.
Do you work with insurance companies?
Yes. We document the damage with photos and a written line-item scope your adjuster can work from, we can walk the site with the adjuster, and we build the repair to the approved scope. The claim is yours — we do not negotiate it for you — but our documentation is built so the covered work is clear.
How long does a storm damage repair take?
It depends on scope and, for insurance work, on approval timing. We secure the home the same visit when damage is active, and the written scope you get with the estimate lays out the sequence of the permanent repair, so you know what happens when before work starts.
Can you match my existing siding and trim?
Usually, yes. For section repairs we match profile, reveal, and finish as closely as the material allows, and we tell you up front when weathering means a repaired section will read slightly newer. When a product is discontinued or was wrong for the coast to begin with, we will show you the closest salt-rated match instead of reinstalling the material that failed.
What areas do you serve for storm and repair work?
We repair homes across the central Oregon coast: Lincoln City, Depoe Bay, Gleneden Beach, Newport, South Beach, Waldport, Otis, Neskowin, and Pacific City. Our crew is based in South Beach, so response along the Highway 101 corridor is quick.
Do you take on small repairs?
Most repair and restoration projects we take on start around $10,000 — storm damage, dry rot into framing, water intrusion, and exterior failures. For a single small fix, a handyman is usually the better and cheaper call, and we will tell you that honestly on the phone rather than send an estimate you do not need.
